Why do I need a Personal Stylist for men when my partner could take me shopping?

Perhaps you're hesitating about using a personal stylist? You think, why would I spend all that money when I could just get my wife / girlfriend / partner to take me shopping instead. Surely it's the same?

I get it, if you've never worked with a personal shopper or stylist before then you probably haven't experienced what makes it a completely different experience to going shopping with your friend or spouse. 

So I decided to address it in this blog post and explain why it's different. If you have any questions, then of course, do get in touch and I can answer them for you.

You end up arguing
One thing a lot of my clients have told me, is when they go shopping with their partner they end up arguing! This is probably due to a lack of time, too much familiarity and lots of frustration at not being able to find anything you like. Your partner tries to suggest things and you snap their head off, because you don't like their ideas.

When you come shopping with me, I approach your problem with a fresh set of eyes. I can hook into what suits you quickly and easily, and if you're like most of my clients, once you're committed to the shopping session you'll be really open and ready for new suggestions.

I definitely won't insist on you buying anything you don't like, or don't think you'll wear, and there certainly won't be any arguments........though there may be a little gentle persuasion to try things that are outside your comfort zone!

You don't have time

This is true for a lot of people but especially if you have kids. Weekends tend to be taken up with ferrying them around to various activities and parties, so the time you’re able to spend together clothes shopping without them will be really limited.

And if you take them with you, it's highly unlikely you'll be able to focus as much as you need, and the shopping expedition will have to be aborted half way through, leaving you without the things you wanted, feeling grumpy and unsatisfied.

It'll be much faster and more productive to come shopping with me. If you can take some time off work during the week that's ideal, but if we do it at the weekend, though it's a bit busier in the shops I can still narrow down the selection hugely for you and put things by in advance.

That means we'll get everything you need by the end of the day, and you can go home knowing you're sorted and prepared for a good few months ahead, if not years!

S/he doesn't have the knowledge

Your wife / partner may know what to buy for themselves but not have much knowledge or interest in what you should get.  I'm a professional so know where to go and all the brands, as I do it all the time. I know where to find things, what fit they should be, and even where to get them tailored.

We’ll achieve loads more than you could on your own or with a friend / wife / partner as I'll have done the preparation the day before so will have already edited down the selection in the shops.

S/he won't be fully focused on you

They start out with great plans to focus solely on you and then get distracted when they spot something they like, and want to try "while we're here". Before you know it, you're sitting outside a changing room concentrating on them, not you! And they're eating into your valuable shopping time.

When we go shopping, all the focus and attention is 100% on you. And laser sharp it is too, no wandering round seeing what you might like - I'll have a plan and will have picked things in advance that I want to show you. I may have already put by your sizes too, so there's absolutely no faffing.

You'll probably never get round to it

The intention is there - this weekend we'll finally get round to it - and you're looking forward to having some decent clothes in your wardrobe. But suddenly there's something more pressing to do, and your needs aren't deemed particularly urgent so they can wait.

The problem is this happens week, after week, after week, and before you know it, your clothes are looking shabby and worn out, and you've got an event coming up where you need to make a great first impression but guess what? You don't have time to go shopping now....and so you have to make do, even though you don't feel great and this affects your confidence and how you interact with the people there.

How do other guys manage to look so put together? You feel like you're at a disadvantage.

When you engage a professional personal stylist for men, like me, then the job gets done! You commit to it and value it, and it doesn't keep getting put off. 

Your partner won't put complete outfits together for you 

It's fairly easy to buy a random item of clothing here and there, and that's what you've done before. Your partner loved it on you and you did too, but now it's sitting unworn in your wardrobe because you just can't figure out what to wear it with. Or maybe you do wear it but you've just put it with your usual default stuff......it doesn't quite look right, but you're not sure why.

This will definitely NOT happen on a shopping trip with me! I'll make sure you have the complete outfit (with accessories) and the things you buy can be worn with more than one other thing, so they're versatile (but that doesn't mean boring).

After the shopping trip, I'll put together outfits for you and send you a link to a handy wardrobe platform that can be downloaded to your phone. Then you have all your outfits at your fingertips making it super easy to decide what to wear every day.

They don't have access to private personal shopping suites 

I can use various private shopping suites in the stores, where I'll put a selection by for you in your sizes ahead of our shopping day, so all you need to do is turn up and try them on and decide whether you'd like to buy them or not.

I'll do the thinking for you about how everything will go together, so it massively speeds up the shopping process and makes it really simple and time effective. 

If, for any reason we don't have access to a shopping suite or they don't have the things we need, I can still put items by in a selection of shops to make it faster and more efficient for us on the day.

They know you too well

Your partner knows you so well - in fact they daren't suggest some things to you because they know exactly what your reaction will be!

When I first started out, I thought it might be hard to shop with people I didn't know.....but in fact I've found out that it's a benefit! Even though I ask you to fill in a questionnaire beforehand, so I get to know some of your likes and dislikes, I don't have preconceived ideas on what you normally wear.

So I come at it with a fresh pair of eyes, and can suggest things to suit your colouring and body shape and I'm quick to hook into people's individual styles too.

That makes it much easier for me to suggest things that are a step away from your norm, and you'll probably feel less comfortable saying no to me than your partner, so you may even discover an item you love, though you thought you'd hate it!

 

We can achieve loads in a short amount of time

When you go shopping with your partner, you're coming at it afresh and don't know what's in the shops and what the options are.

I'm there all the time so have a good idea of what the stores have in, though I will still thoroughly prep ahead of our session.This means we can achieve loads in one day and get you kitted out for the next season. 

And once you've got the basics, then instead of doing a full on shop, the next shopping trip can be more of a top up or we can focus on getting things for specific events, and it'll be much easier to really start really building out your wardrobe with things you love.
