Casual men's shoes for Summer 2024
I've seen some great shoes in various client's wardrobes recently but there are others who just don't seem to be able to get their heads round summer shoes!
Hence, it's something I'm often shopping for with clients. Here's a selection of summer shoes that I've been buying with the guys I've taken shopping or been thinking about getting on future personal shopping trips! (Could that be with you?)
A friend asked me what he should buy for summer and we decided he just wasn't an espadrille or loafer type of guy, so I thought these would be great instead......and they really are! He's styled them with various things from slim jeans with turn ups to smarter check trousers, and printed shorts....they're a summery version of the normal soft soled boots he wears in winter.
They're also a good alternative look to plain white leather trainers if you're bored of those, or don't like wearing bright white, and I love the retro 1950s feel these have about them.
Beige 'Star Master' plimsolls - Novesta at End Clothing - £55
These are some I got with a client who was going to Majorca to get married and having various associated parties at beach clubs and on boats to really make the most of the celebrations!
They're a loafer style with a roped espadrille sole, and they looked fab with these swim shorts from Orlebar Brown and a white linen shirt. And also went brilliantly with this shirt from Luca Faloni (great if you like a more fitted linen shirt) which we put with some straight leg white linen trousers.
If you love an elegant European style then go for a pair of these!
'Di Marme' orange suede espadrille loafer - Russell & Bromley - £245
I've bought these with various clients over the years, and they're a great default sandal option. Understated but with a bit of an edge - they look good with baggy rolled up jeans, linen trousers, shorts or cargo pants.
The neutral brown goes with everything and they're not too expensive. What's not to like? You can even wear them with socks if you're a more of a "break the rules" type of guy!
'Arizona' beige suede sandals - Birkenstock at Mr Porter - £115
A couple of clients have bought these - one got them in the navy as shown and another client got them in tan.
They're the perfect style if you want something a little more elegant than trainers but still casual and comfortable. The unusual weave texture adds interest and you can wear them with tailored shorts, dark wash jeans or lightweight chinos.
They also looked excellent on one client with some smart jogger type trousers we got from Sandro for an upscale urban casual look.
'San Marino' navy weave slip on sneakers - Russell & Bromley - £395
I haven't actually bought any of these fisherman's sandals with my clients yet, but to test out who might like them I put out a poll on Instagram. I asked "would you give them a try?" or "do they remind you too much of the eighties?!"
The result was split down the middle with about half saying they'd like to try them, and the other half saying no way, I saw them first time round and I'm not going back there!
I'm definitely keeping them on my radar for the rest of my summer shopping trips coming up though, and they might just be the perfect choice for my next client. Which camp do you fall into?
'Quincy' tan leather fisherman's sandals - Grenson - £195
Are you fed up with not having the right thing to wear when it comes to summer? Do you just make do, thinking "it's only for work / holiday / going to the park with the kids" (delete as appropriate) but actually you'd LOVE to feel great every day, no matter what you're doing?
